Andy you hit the nail on the head with the insanity of closing our only oil refinery. When war breaks out in the Pacific we'll see the disruption of fuel supplies to Aotearoa New Zealand. Not having a refinery means we'll see society break down within weeks of the blockade.
Disclaimer; I worked on the Marsden Point Expansion project in the early 1980's, I have oil and it's emissions on my hands.
The non existing navy is a powerful point that is understated in this article. Would be interesting to talk more about time lines. Im not sure it will collapse as people have the uncanny ability to endure all kids of torture for extended periods of time but how long will this torture last and what will
It look like could also be interesting to talk about. Food shortages, food supply collapse, cities becoming drug lord controlled zones (like most of Africa) … this kind of conversation helps prepare for the coming tide of despair everyone is not getting ready for. :)
Have you read Kim Stanley Robinson's book "The Ministry for the Future"? i'm only a quarter of the way in, and it echoes your thinking from a near future point of view.
Epic. This is pure genius. Must talk to you about it …
Brilliant laugh-cry writing. Thanks

Added here, thx.

Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the tip! Will take a look!
It's the only vaguely plausible and positive book on global warming I've read. Full of good ideas for those that might be looking.
Sounds like the perfect segue into a social credit system complete with digital currency and carbon lifestyle penalties/rewards hahahahahahahaha
