Brilliant. One of your best. I’m both laughing out loud and crying inside.. is this what people into S&M get a kick out of? 🤔 joy tinged with despair? Watching your dreams roasting over the coals on the spit but also kinda enjoying the warmth of the fire.

Yeah, probly ruined my chances on that already...I've been avoiding going that way round the world for years, since I got yelled at for having the wrong coloured form once, the one that hilariously asks if you're coming to the US "for the purposes of terrorism..." or "had anything to do with the persecution of the Jews during World War Two..." as if terrorists and fascists would be like "oh, no, they've rumbled us with this clever form, so let's give up." Of course now the qualifying responses to those questions could be the opposite of what we assumed previously...

Somewhat related, I came across this lovely quote by Churchill: (from the book Churchill: Walking with Destiny)

"I do not admit that the dog in a manger has the final right to the manger, even though he may have lain there for a very long time. I do not admit, for instance, that a great wrong has been done to the Red Indians of America or the black people of Australia. I do not admit that a wrong has been done to those people by the fact that a stronger race, a higher grade race, or, at any rate, a more worldly-wise race, to put it that way, has come in and taken their place. (p. 415)"
